Scholastic and co-scholastic activities complement each other and develop all rounded, socially skilled and healthier students. The co-scholastic activities such as music, keyboard, dance and yoga classes are conducted regularly. Basic keyboard symbols, major and minor scales, patriotic and devotional songs are taught to children. Classical and western dances are introduced to coordinate the different parts of the body like hands, eyes, fingers, feet,etc. to express in a natural way of human feelings and expressions.
Co-scholastic areas include skill – based activities, art education, physical education and other co-curricular activities like dance, art, music etc. They supplement scholastic/curricular activities and prepare the students in the “Art of living and working together” they are meant to bring social skills, intellectual skills, moral values and personality progress and character appeal in students.
Yoga, an effective art of healthy living can be a game-changer for a student. Yoga helps the students to unite the physical, mental and spiritual aspects of the body. If a student practices yoga regularly, they will have a positive effect on both their health and academics.
Arts research has shown that students who learn dance are more self-motivated, disciplined and focused. They are more expressive in their communication of emotions, thoughts and feelings. They are able to critically analyse their own work and the work of others, as well as being more creative and imaginative.
Students feel a sense of belonging when they listen to music. Music encourages them to stay focused and increase their self-confidence. Musical training helps to develop language and reasoning. Both music and singing have positive impact on all aspects of childhood learning and development. Research has already shown the importance of music in education including students’ academic success
Learning to play an instrument stimulates the brain cells improving functions like memory and abstract reasoning skills, which are essential for maths and science. Children who learn to play an instrument have an outlet for creativity and their emotions. As children begin to master their instrument feel confident in performing their skills in public
Skating works nearly every muscle group in the body and gliding requires synchronized movement of the legs, which is important for joint flexibility. It also builds up the leg and abdominal muscles. Like any workout, skating is great for cardiovascular health – it gets blood pumping and the heart rate up.
The word Silambam etymologically means “staff from the hills” with the word meaning of “Silam” being “hills” and “kambu” being “staff or sticks”. The game is usually played on an even hard surface where the players use a bamboo stick with its length equivalent to their heights. Silambam is an ancient martial art, from Tamil Nadu. The primary focus of the fighters is to use the bamboo stick as a weapon to defeat the opponents.
Taekwondo is a self defence discipline. Taekwondo, like Karate and Judo, is a martial art, or fighting sport. Taekwondo is famous for its high, spinning kicks.
Bharat Scouts and Guides is a voluntary Educational Movement for young people without distinction of origin, race or creed. The purpose of the movement is to develop the character of the youth and selfless service to the country to become responsible citizen. We have 75 Scouts and 40 Guides from Secondary classes, 39 Bulbuls and 40 cubs from Primary classes. We are preparing seventeen class VIII Scouts & Guides for Governor Award.
The principles of JRC are HEALTH, SERVICE, FRIENDSHIP, MOTTO. “I serve” Red Cross is an organisation which is voluntary and humanitarian in nature of work and it needs young people to ensure the continuity & success of the programmes. In St. James Academy we have a JRC unit with 50 members from class VI to XI we insist the virtues of generosity hard work, perseverance, selflessness and helping the needy and poor people.
There are lots of games played at the school level but the most common and important games coaching are offered for Cricket, Foot ball, Tennis, Badminton, Basket Ball and much more. Skills like teamwork, leadership, patience, discipline, learning from failure, sportsmanship etc. are developed only when children play sports regularly, and these are equally important when it comes to studies and sports activities. Sports activities helps in building skills and students have a great career in sports.
Our physical education teachers give special coaching for the interested students in Athletics, Football, Cricket, Volley Ball, Throw Ball, Throw events and Kho-Kho from 04.00 to 05.00 pm.
